Texas House Member Rep. Rodney Anderson (105th District) posed Friday with some furry friends at Prairie Paws adoption center in Grand Prairie.
The photo-op’s purpose was to raise awareness about the center’s Let Freedom Ring adoption promotion. From Saturday, July 2 to Saturday, July 9, all animal adoptions will be only $4, as opposed to the regular $70 adoption fee.
“It is our hope that we can get at LEAST 50-60 animals adopted through this Let Freedom Ring $4 adoption shelter,” wrote Tammy Roberts, adoption center Operations Supervisor in an email to DFW Mag [emphasis original]. “We want to see as many animals as possible go to their forever homes this week!”
Prairie Paws also hopes the promotion will raise awareness about the shelter and the services they provide, Roberts said.
Rep. Anderson, a self-described “animal person,” decided to partner with Prairie Paws for the photo-op because “saving the lives of animals with loving homes is just the right thing to do.”
Anderson’s furry family members include Chunk, an English bulldog, and cat Wilson—both rescue pets.
On Friday morning, Anderson posed at Prairie Paws with Maverick, a brown Chihuahua mix, and Rex, a bull terrier and basset hound mix.
Maverick came to the shelter as a stray in March, Roberts said, adding, “Maverick is an explorer; he can climb fences when left unattended–he just wants to be where the fun is!”
Rex (nicknamed “T-Rex” at the shelter, Roberts says) was picked up as a stray in June and is currently being treated for an ear infection—and will soon be ready for a forever home.
“He is a complete ham,” Roberts added.
