If you don’t know by now, you soon will that I am an Arlington Foodie. What that means to me is bringing out talented people in Arlington, Texas and highlighting their unique culinary talents. If you have discovered our tiny facebook virtual mecca, you will see a lot of postings about restaurants local to Arlington. Responses about these restaurants can be beautiful and not so savory. What you may not realize is we are much more than an online source when looking for a good restaurant, but an actual foodie community. By this I mean, we host a variety of events that make it fun and inviting to be a part of Arlington. Today, I would like to share with you all of the new events this online group is hosting for March in hopes you may also find the same excitement for this little group that I do.
March 5 2-5PM: Tiba Grill Value Swarm
What is a value swarm? The goal is to bring in customers during a slow time during the day in an effort to promote a culinary hidden gem with a discount provided by the restaurant. In exchange they receive notoriety and a social media boost for the afternoon.
March 11 12-5PM: Arlington Foodies Home Chef Chicken Cook Off
This will be the first competition for the Arlington Foodies where the members of the board will be cooking for an esteemed panel of judges. Our judges? Randy Ford long time owner of J. Gilligans, Chef Larry Ross, former competitor on Season 2 of Hell’s Kitchen and personal Arlington Chef and Bud Kennedy, Food critic and writer for Fort Worth Star Telegram. This event will be held at Division Brewing in Arlington and there will be tasty tacos and brew available for purchase. The grand champion receives a trophy, $100 and Bragging Rights!
March 21 6-9PM: Coker’s BBQ Swarm Choice Award
There are two kinds of swarms for the Arlington Foodies, the value swarm as you saw above and a Swarm Choice Award. This is a swarm on a slow day with the same social media promotion from our members, but we swarm the venue because they have been chosen by a group poll selection process. There will be a ceremony of awards at 7:15PM for the management team to recognize their culinary success in Arlington, Texas.
March 25 4-10PM: Spring Picnic and Bowman Springs
Last November was our first picnic at this pavilion by the lake and it was a hit! A variety of local restaurants donated some wonderful food while members came together producing a feast fit for a king! After we finished our savory morsels, we enjoyed an evening under the moon listening to members drum across the lake and watch ladies with their scarves dance in the soft grass. Simple, beautiful and fun, but more importantly, family friendly and community driven.
Some of our past events are the Arlington Foodies Best Blind Burger Challenge where Fork In The Road won for their Muenster Burger. This event was covered by the City of Arlington’s Arlington Eats community News. Click this link to watch the video! The group only has one value swarm and one swarm choice every month to maintain the value for which the swarm offers. There is always something cooking in this group such as in April they will host the Taco Tuesday Taste Test and much, much more. The group is free to join and ever welcoming to newcomers looking for a great community to be inspired by and to share your knowledge.
