In Harms Way (deliberately)
Story after story continues to break about the inability of the Dallas Police Department to service the citizens; various anecdotes are published daily, specific to one incident after another, where the job simply did not get done in a timely manner, jeopardizing officers and citizens.
I have said and stand by the statement, that the Department has reached a place where the “internal conditions of employment” now pose more of a threat to the rank and file, than do the external threats that come with the badge.
The City has deliberately failed to minimum staff the Police Department; it is disingenuous of you to say that a responsible attempt is being made to achieve appropriate staffing levels, when the starting salary is 20 to 40 % less than area police Departments.
Nothing has been done to stem the flow of Officers to other Departments, while the rest of us are being ground to dust to get the job done. The mindset that command staff and city administrators came into the world booted and spurred, and we, (rank and file) came in, saddled and bridled to be ridden, is now in place. We are being ridden to exhaustion, and this will prove costly in the end, to all parties.
It is obvious that the Department has been deliberately denuded, and that those of us still here, are being tasked with doing more with less. The stress level is off the charts. Every scientific paper ever done on stress in policing, establish an inverse relationship between the two: the more stress in the work environment, the less police response along prudent and constitutional context.
In a free and open society, the first requisite is order; we, police are tasked with maintaining order and doing the job in a timely and responsible manner.
At present, I will argue that your office has undermined both considerations; the former, by not having enough Officers employed to get the job done, and the latter, by creating a hostile, stress filled work environment, that is neither prudent nor responsible. And yet, you hold Officers responsible for adhering to both touchstones.
As soon as I am cleared by IAD of the charge, “conflict of Interest” for identifying myself as a working Dallas cop to President Trump in a YouTube piece, I will retire.
What an absolutely bogus accusation! I don’t have a conflict of interest, I have a conflict of conscience. The Dallas police Department has the conflict of interest.
Those who have sworn to risk their lives doing the job, have been deliberately placed in harms way by your office.
